"I love you, England. For a very long while now." You heard America say to England.
You stood hidden behind a tree, your eyes narrowing, teeth clenching and your hand's grip on the tree tightening. You knew what England was going to say next and you didn't want to see America's reaction to it. You wanted to stop it before it happened. But you just stood there. Watching it all go down.
"H-huh? D-Don't say things like that you git!" England said to him, trying to cover the blush that was appearing on his cheeks. Then America grabbed England's hand.
"I mean it." He said and moved in closer to his face. He was going to kiss him!
You wanted to stop him but your body just wasn't listening to you! America's lips were so close to England's and then-
"Stop." England said, stopping America with his hand on his chest. Then he pushed himself away. "I don't love you in that way, America. I see you as my little brother. And only my little brother. Do you understand?"
America's face saddened and darkened a bit and then he placed on a toothy smile. You could tell it was forced and fake. He was hurting inside. And that made you bite your bottom lip.
"Yeah, I totally understand dude!" He said. "I just thought you should know." You were surprised a bit at how he managed to muster up enough courage to do his hero laugh at the end of his sentence.
"Heh, that's good then." England smirked and then he patted America's shoulder. "Take care alright?"
England left with a wave, leaving America behind in the grove of trees that America had lead him to. You watched America's hand clench into a fist, still in the air from when he was waving good bye and his head tilted towards the ground. Then both of his hands went to his sides. You stepped out from behind the tree and started to walk towards him.
You were friends with the the country personification of America ever since elementary and always has been to this day. Lots of people wondered how you were able to put up with him. To tell the truth, you wondered about that too sometimes. But you really didn't care. He was nice to you and you thought some of his antics were funny. Not to mention you got each other's backs always. The two of you were the best of friends.
You walked up to America and heard sniffling as you got closer.
"America? You questioned. He stayed in place, his back facing you.
"You were right, (Name)." He said sadly. "You were right..."
You pursed your lips and your eye brows collected together on your forehead. Yesterday you had told America that you spotted England and France kissing in the board room, telling each other that they loved each other. He didn't believe you when you told him. And then this happened. Your intention of telling him before hand was to stop him from breaking his heart. You didn't want your best friend to have a broken heart. Now, you were afraid that you might of mad it worst by telling him in the first place.
You probably did.
"America...I'm sorry." You said, sincere in your eyes. You stood next to him as you placed a hand on his shoulder. His hair was covering his eyes.
His shoulders tensed but then loosened. "I just...I just didn't want to believe it..." Then you saw a tear drop from his chin and fall to the cemented ground and your eyes widened. "I'm such an idiot...!"
America then lifted his hands up to his face as tears began to stream down. And he cried. He cried like that first day that you two met.
"Hey! Why are you crying?" You asked a crying little boy who was all alone by himself, hiding under a slide.
He stopped his crying momentarily and looked up at you with redden, teary eyes and a bit of mucus dripping down his nose. Then he started to cry again.
"H-hey! Just tell me what's wrong!" You said, a bit of worry taking over.
"I-I got bullied...!" He said in between hiccups.
"Why?" You sat down in front of him.
"I-I wanted to be a hero, but then I got told I couldn't be and got yelled at and got called names!" He tried to wipe some tears that were racing down his cheeks away.
You sat there and stared at him. Then you cupped your chin and thought.
"What's you name?" You asked.
He looked at you and then replied, "America."
"Well America, we're going to play together." You said, quickly standing up. "I'll play the bad guy so you can be the hero, okay?" You grabbed his hand and pulled him out from under the slide and gave him your biggest smile.
He stared at you for a moment and then smiled. "Okay!"
And both of you walked hand in hand towards the sand box. "My name's (Name) by the way."
~Flash Back End!~
America never cried like that ever since. And even though you were just a little kid back then, you never wanted to see people cry. But seeing tears of happiness was an exception. Also, that day on ward, you mentally promised yourself that you wouldn't make or see America cry like that again. So it made you feel guilty and hurt that you told America about England and France. It was like throwing salt or squeezing lemon juice into an open wound. It just added more pain.
"Don't cry, America." You thought. "Don't cry! I don't... I don't...!" You cupped his face and turned his head towards you. "I don't want to see you cry." Then you covered his lips with yours.
America's eyes widened in shock as yours closed. He was caught off guard. He was too surprised to do anything for the first few seconds into the kiss. When he gained his ability to move again, he quickly shoved you away.
"(N-Name)!" He shouted, his face becoming red.
You fell to the ground and snapped out of what ever daze you were in that made you kiss him.
"A-America! I didn't mean to! I'm-" You quickly got up and reached out to him.
"That...That wasn't cool dude!" He shouted at you and then he turned on his heels and ran.
"W-Wait! America!" You yelled.
You tried to run after him, but he ran like an Italian when they see the British. You never knew he could run so fast. You ended up leaning over on your knees, huffing, your lungs on fire.
"That...That wasn't cool dude!" His words repeated in your head as the image of his tear stained face saying those words to you appeared in front of your eyes.
"Damn it..." You said as you face palmed and gritted your teeth. You regretted kissing him. Why the hell did you even do it in the first place?
The next few days, America avoided you. He avoided you at the conferences, bathrooms, hallways, streets... He also ignored your calls and texts. You were getting annoyed with this. All you wanted to do was apologize for kissing him! Not to mention you were still confused on why you did that in the first place!
Two weeks of America avoiding you had passed by when you had managed to talked to his half brother Canada.
"Hey, uh, Canada right?" You asked, making sure.
"Huh? O-oh, yeah." He replied, his face tinting pink. Probably because he was being noticed.
"Can you...Can you give this to America for me." You said, scratching the back of your head while you lifted up a folded piece of paper.
"But why? You're friends with m-my brother right? Why can't you give it to him in person?" Canada asked, looking from the paper to your face.
"Uh, well...I can't... You see, something happened between us..." You said, your cheeks tinting from embarrassment.
"Oh, that explains why America and you haven't been hanging around." Canada stated. You nodded. "Sure, I can bring this to him."
You smiled faintly at him. "Thanks."
"No problem." Canada said with a smile.
"Who are you?" His polar bear Mr. Kuma-whatever asked.
"I'm Canada..." Canada answered. You left.
You headed over to the park and sat at the bottom of one of the slides. You propped your elbow on your knee and rested your chin in the palm of your hand. You looked around the park and saw the little kids playing on the merry-go-round or the swings. And you sat there, wondering if Canada had already given the note to America yet. On the note you had written:
I need to talk to you. Please. Come to the place where we very first met, okay? And if you don't...I'll understand that you don't want to be my friend anymore.
You huffed as you scooted your butt up a little on the slide. Your mind wondered back to when you kissed him which caused you to wonder, again, why you did that. You then remembered your talk with Japan.
~Flash Back x2!~
"Is something bothering you, (Name)-san?" You heard Japan ask from behind you.
"Huh?" You pulled away from your staring out the window and turned your attention to him. "Oh, nothing's wrong, Japan."
"Are you sure?" Japan's eye brows moved up a bit. "You are not hanging around America-san as much as you use to and you seem a bit down and angsty on something."
"Uh...well..." You trailed off, rubbing the back of your neck.
"Did something happen between you two? You can terr me if you want." He suggested.
You closed your eyes and tilted your head to the side. "Well, America confessed to England. And got shot down."
"Whoa, rearry?" Japan took a step back, surprised. You nodded.
"Yeah and he started crying and I really don't like it when he cries. Then suddenly, I just...kissed him." You cheeks tinted pink.
"Yeah way. And now he avoids me and I want to apologize." You opened your eyes half way.
"That exprains why America-san sits far on the other side of the room from you." Japan stated. Your shoulders slumped. "But...that is not the onry thing bothering you is it?"
"Uh...I...I also wanna figure out why I kissed him." You explained, eyes still on the ground.
"You are confused on why you kissed him?" You nodded. "Hmm...Could it be that you have farren in rove with America-san?"
"Wh-What?!" You shot your head back up with wide eyes. "Th-That can't be! He's my best pal!"
"I understand, (Name)-san." He nodded. "But think about it. You and him have been together for a long time. You enjoy each others company and you don't rike to see America cry, right?"
"I may not be France-san, but I think rove could bud from that." Japan smiled and then bowed. "Excuse, (Name)-san but I have to go now. Sayonara." And he left. You looked at him walk away and then you turned back to looked outside the window in thought.
~Flash Back End x2!~
You smirked with your eyes closed. "So...I kissed him because I fell in love with him..."
Your eyes opened and you looked up to see America standing a few feet away from you. He looked at the ground, looking uneasy.
"America...?" You breathed. You shot up and in a flash, had your arms wrapped around him. "You read my note! You came!"
"H-hey! L-Let go dude!" America pushed you off him. You stumbled back, but quickly balanced yourself.
"I'm sorry, America. It's just..." Your eye brows collected as you smiled. "You avoided me for a long time and I missed you."
His eyes widened a bit as he continued to refuse to look at you. His face becoming flustered.
"Ju-Just tell me what you wanted to talk about!" He demanded.
"Oh, I just...I just wanted to apologize for kissing you. My body moved on it's own. I'm sorry!" You said.
"So...Why did you kiss me?" He asked, his eyebrows coming together and his lips puckered into a sort of pout.
"That, heh, I wondered that myself." You stuck your hands in your business pants pockets and looked at the ground. "I really couldn't find an answer for that. And after being told the answer, I realized that it was true."
"What was your answer?" He asked, a bit nervous.
You looked at him with a smile and walked over to him.
"My answer was..." You grabbed his hand. His eyes widened and he looked at you. "that I love you."
Then your eyes closed as you kissed him on the lips. When you pulled away, you looked at his face. Which was blushing red like mad. He sunk his head as he avoided eyes with you. He was acting kind of tsundere like. Like England. Well, he was raised by him.
"I...I had a question in my head too when you kissed me..." He said.
"What was that?" You tilted your head in curiosity.
"I wondered why I...liked the kiss..." His face became more red. If that was possible. "And during the time I avoided you...I wondered about that and now, I realized that I love you too, (Name)..."
You suddenly felt tears spill out of your eyes and you smiled. "That's...great!"
Then you started to cry. Were you that worried that he might not love you back? Were you so relieved that it brought you to tears?
"Whoa, hey! (Name)! Why are you crying? I said I loved you!" He said, starting to panic a bit. "Don't cry!"
"I-I know. I'm just...so happy!" You said with a smile and you hugged him.
And so everything was great between you and America. You two also started dating. A thing America announced and you agreed to which led to all of the other personified countries to say,
"Finally. We were wondering when the both of you would realize your feelings for each other."
America started to protest and you just smiled. Then you kissed him on the cheek. He blushed at this and calmed down a bit. Now you really had to live up to your mental promise of not making or seeing America cry.
